Day 1 - The tour starts in the heart of Montenegro in the capital Podgorica, we cycle north towards the second largest city Niksic.
Day 2 - We follow quiet roads from Niksic towards Pluzine and into the breath-taking Piva canyon which links with Tara canyon on the Bosnian border.
Day 3- We then climb steeply out of Europe's largest canyon to ride across the Karst landscapes, on roads that you will most likely not see another person. Across Durmitor national park and past its famous peak Bobotov Kuk to arrive in Zabljak, the gateway to the incredible glacial Black lake (Crni jezero)
Day 4 - We then drop again down the winding roads into Tara canyon which takes us through to Kolasin, which claims one of three remaining rain forests of Europe and Montenegro's main ski resort.
Day 5 - From here we cycle East to Plav and the “accursed mountains”, Prokletije national park and the Montenegrin Alps. This is where we cross the border and dip our toe into Albania where we cycle South to Shkoder, the former capital of Albania, now apparently the cycling capital of Albania.
Day 6 - We then journey back into Montenegro to explore the majestic ‘Skadar lake’, home to the Dalmation Pelican, the only surviving Pelican species in Europe. The lake is also the home of many endemic species of flora and fauna of Montenegro.
Day 7- After a night on the shores of the lake we cycle towards another former capital ‘Cetinje’ former royal capital of Montenegro.
Day 8 - From here we head to the Kotor Serpentine, an 8.3 Km stretch of steep descent with 16 hairpin bends which lands us in one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Kotor Bay. Here we spend our final night with drinks taking in the most southernly European fjord.
Who is this tour for?
The clue is in the name of the country Crna Gora, which means ‘the black Mountains’ this truly is a mountainous country!
Make no mistake this cycle tour is a challenge, not in the distances covered each day but in the ascent that must be completed.
However, with the correct training and gearing this challenge can be tackled by all bike enthusiasts. Safe in the knowledge that our famous brew stops will keep you fully energised to tackle each and every climb.
